Logotherapy

Have you heard about this kind of therapy? Have you tried it for yourself? I am interested on finding your personal experiences on Logotherapy.

Here is a bit about it, in Spanish: "Lo que importa no es el sentido de la vida en términos generales, sino el significado concreto de la vida de cada individuo en un momento dado." - Viktor Frankl

@LittleMissJoy

Here is a link that explains it more and should probably be discussed in a 1;1 with a therapist.

What would prevent you from leaving a review about a listener after a chat with him/her? How do you think you may feel more comfortable about providing listeners feedback? https://www.7cups.com/forum/SiteUpdates_100/Feedback_37/Listenersfeedback_210710/

Hi there!

I have heard of logotherapy and it's fascinating as one of it's core concepts is that human nature is searching for purpose and a meaning. Victor Frankl and all of the things he has taught us about psychotherapy brings me back to my days of studying! I remember his book Man's Search for Meaning.

What an interesting question, thank you!

@ThankYouForLettingMeTryingToHelp I'm just starting the book. I'm at the part we he writes about his experiances in the concentration camp so I haven't read about the logotherapy part yet. I'm very interested to know how he kept his spirits up in the concentration camp.

Great Slightly smiling

I read the book and was told about it by a therapist that followed an interesting line of thought.

I researched about it on the net and found many defenders and detractors of Viktor. But I have personally not known any therapist adopting his methods yet Red heart

@ThankYouForLettingMeTryingToHelp Hi I have been reading the Victor Frankel book. I have done many different types of therapy. For me personally I don't think that logotherapy could have helped more than the other types of therapy that I have done. Perhaps it could be a helpful in addition to the other types of therapy.

After my daughter's death, and while i was actively suicidal and being kept safe from myself, I was given a book and was encouraged (almost pushed) to read it. I remember the authors name was Frankel. As I read about the absolutely horrifying detailed experiences, I was pushed further into the coldest and darkest perception of life. This was absolutely as bad of a situation as I was in, and I scolded the therapist the next day saying, "I can't even believe you chose this book". She explained to me what logotherapy was and I understood the concept right away, but when I was at my lowest point, and prevented from escaping, this made matters worse initially. The book was detailed, and I only kept reading it because I was told it would help ease my suffering.

That was a very forsaken time in my life, and I desperately wanted the pain to stop.

I will admit that the book did show me that it wad possible for somebody to have it worse than me, but thats about all it did. I see now that was an important thing to know, and as I started to realize this, I started to find a new purpose of helping some of the people around me that were suffering very tragic circumstances. I played cards with a 19 yr old that had severe brain damage from a failed hanging suicide attempt, and another young 18 yr old who lost most of his family to street violence. Over time, I began to feel like I was chosen to be tested in these ways by God, and that I was put in a unique position to be helpful. Helping those around me gave me direction and purpose, and writting helped me put it all in ways I finally could understand.

@ThankYouForLettingMeTryingToHelp

You're welcome. It seemed some asked if they know anybody that logotherapy was used on, and in what setting. I left out a few things, but will say it doesn't get much worse. The important thing to come out of this is that, when we feel like we having it worse than anybody else in the world, and we feel forsaken, that there are othets amongst us with incomprehesable problems along side us. But you wouldn't even know it, until you reach out. Also at that time, the only other book I had was a Book of all United States presidents. I read it, and found that many of them had lived through tremendous family tragities. We all need eachother, we all can help eachother, and it helps us, to help them.heart
