I am going to stop doing things that make me miserable such as getting angry. It serves no purpose and I end up feeling like the world is against me. I create that feeling by letting the angry attitude take over.

I am going to stop doing things just to fill up my day and do something that feels meaningful to me like responding to threads and posts on 7 Cups. People really appreciate it when someone responds to them. No one cares if I watch the TV.

There is balance to life … what needs to be done needs and what you want to do as well. The same goes for feelings balance in all things good for mind and spirit as well. we often are toughest on ourselves … we are similar in so many ways.


It is great when you want to unwind watch a series that is important for self care too.


7cups is a worthy volunteer activity that helps so many people. I understand that very much. You are incredible here thank you for all you do here. 💕💕💕🙌🙌🙌💯💯💯

@soulsings You're going to stop feeling an emotion? You can permanently deprive yourself of the ability to feel anger?

That's a tall order to fill for any human being....how will you pull it off?

@slowdecline48 perhaps I did not explain my aspiration clearly Let me try again.

I am not trying to suppress an emotion such as anger. What I am trying to do is to be very aware of how my mind works. In the past when thoughts of anger rose up and took over and an automatic response happened and anger took over.

Now when I see those thoughts, I say wait a minute. Last time I had that thought and let it take over I was miserable. So I may excuse myself and leave the room until I calm down. I may if I am able change the subject or sideline those thoughts. Whatever I do, I aspire not to harm others by angry outbursts and harm myself by making myself miserable. 

This is how it works with me.  Others are free to act as they wish. I hope this is a clearer explanation.

No, but I've had thoughts of what I need to stop doing in my head.  I have stopped doing some things, I think.  

Why might having a “stop doing” list be as crucial as having a “to do” list in managing tasks and priorities of life? 

You have to stop doing negative things and start doing positive things.  I just saw a meme on FB:

I think this says much the same thing.  We have to stop being one thing in order to become something else.  That includes stopping certain behaviors that aren't helping one move forward, whatever those behaviors are.  They might be obvious and simple, but they might be hard to identify and complicated, too.

In what situations or aspects of life could a “stop doing” list be particularly beneficial? 

Stop doing things the keep one from moving forward, stop doing things that keep one in a "rut", stop doing things tha are a waste of time, energy, and effort.

Yes some may not write a list but think about what what needs to change in life to meet your needs and wants … great meme btw. Moving forward is always a great thing. I make goals for each year to keep life interesting! Ruts are often tough and definitely 💯 stop 🛑 the behaviors that keep you there …. Need to be in the rear view … thanks for sharing.

Why might having a “stop doing” list be as crucial as having a “to do” list in managing tasks and priorities of life?  I guess it would help a person break bad habits.

In what situations or aspects of life could a “stop doing” list be particularly beneficial?  I don't know.

Yes breaking habits you don’t prefer and often we re assess how we feel mentally or what we do day to day work or in relationships or self care even …


I am on a weight loss journey I got a note on my snack cupboard lol 😂 you are not hungry drink water 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I do write "not to do" lists.

When my to-do list gets long, I go through it and choose things I decide I won't do.

Things that would be nice to do if I had infinite time and energy, but are not essential.

I put those in a list and might move items from one list to the other. Like refining them. Typically, getting even more merciless with unnecessary tasks.

I move some of those not-to-do items to a repository of ideas to review someday.

Absolutely 💯 percent re assess your ability to complete what is on the list and they do change priority depending on time available or circumstance changes.


I never considered this when I posted this however I DO this all the time. Thank you for sharing. 🙌🙌

@Crazycatlady28 when I have had break ups it was all too easy to play the blame game. But when everything  was going well I imagined I was in heaven. 

Looking back on that I think they were both exaggerations.

Given the times I've been stopped from doing something by my chronic illnesses, the last thing that would ever occur to me is to make list of things not to be done.
