Anxiety and Chest Pain

pluckyStrings4696 January 24th, 2020

I know that I have anxiety and get panic attacks, but I've never had to go to the hospital. Lately, my chest seems to ache all the time. Sometimes I get a sharp pain. I do not have a history of heart problems. I am going thru alot of stress right now and trying to manage my anxiety

How do I know if it's anxiety causing the chest pain or if I'm developing a heart problem? I know it's common with anxiety but all the time?

omg! I had chest pains for over a week! I though I had lung cancer, like a weight was on my chest and it was hard to swallow, like it seemed that it took forever for food and water to go down. After talking with my therapist, it almost immediately went away.

I get it several times a day, heart related, my heart stops and I have to gasp, hold my breath and clinch my left hand muscles...it goes away...I was scared in the begining, now with so many bad things happening I learned to live with this one too...before my chemo therapy I had to undergo a thourough and complex heart exam and it told me 98% was ok so what it is I do not know, panic, anxuety attacks, arithmia but I so not want to see any doctor any more...these physical attacks come and go wheter awake or in sleep but I come out fine after these attacks so I do npt worry anymore, let them be with me if that is how it's supposed to be...

@pluckyStrings4696 A cardiologist can do tests to check for heart problems. Some insurance companies require a referral from your primary MD to see the cardiologist. This can be a good place to start.

I too would check with a doctor. It would provide him/ her with a good baseline to measure all other heart related issues and it would help you better understand your anxiety. You wouldn't have to question your symptoms in the future, you'd know for sure. Panic attacks stink!

@pluckyStrings4696 the best way to know is go to the doctors to rule out physical problem. Then you may talk to a psychiatrist or therapist.
