Wisdom - please share

Yashoda108 April 29th

As we move into our years after turning 50, it is expected that we have grown in wisdom. Please share how you have increased in wisdom with age … Can you also share what things decreased the development of wisdom in your life

Hi, I respectfully disagree with the notion that wisdom is inherently tied to age. Wisdom may come from experience, not just years. While I'm not yet over 50 and can't fully participate in this discussion from that perspective, I believe wisdom is more about life experiences rather than simply aging. Expecting wisdom solely based on age may not always be accurate or fair. Each person's path is unique, and wisdom can be gained at any stage of life.

@iPHOENIX very true. As the old saying goes, "there's no fool like an old fool."

@Yashoda108 An interesting & thought-provoking question!

Every experience in my life has been a lesson from which to learn wisdom.  Also self-taught wisdom - studying philosophy & history, for example.  Spiritual wisdom has increased over the years by studying the Scriptures of various religions.  Generational wisdom (practical, mostly) has been passed down to me from my parents, grandparents & great-grandparents over the years.  Wisdom has been mutually shared with & by my contemporaries.

The things that have stopped me gaining wisdom are mainly negative experiences, crisis situations & emotions - fear, guilt, shame, anger & hostility from others - bullying or cruelty, for example.  These evoke a paralysis in my thinking that makes it impossible to think critically, evaluate & learn.
