Anybody here taking Metoprolol and/or Anastrozole? Side effects?

Hi, all. After I got breast cancer, my doctor prescribed Anastrozole post-surgery. Ever since then, I've experienced side effects like bone thinning, weight gain, and high blood pressure. Worse of all is the joint pain, especially in my knees. I was also prescribed Metoprolol to deal with the high blood pressure from the Anastrozole. And I'm getting side effects from it.  I swear to god, I managed to beat cancer, but the post-cancer medicine is killing me!

My doctor has suggested I lay off the Anastrozole for two weeks and see if things get better. I'm also laying off the Metoprolol, because I read that both it and Anastrozole can cause arthralgia (joint pain or stiffness). I hope I see some change, because these medicines are making me miserable.

Anyone else here taking these medicines, and, if so, have you experienced any side effects?

@goodSpruce3041. My partner  used to take metoprolol. He didn’t complain about side effects ( but he is pretty lucky about tolerating most meds).

What dose of metoprolol are you taking? There is no point of talking metoprolol alone because it has been prescribed to reduced the side effect of anastrozole. I understand you are facing side effects because of Anastrozole but also consider that this is given because you have been treated for cancer which is deadly in itself. Kindly ask your doctor why Anastrozole is being given if it is necessary and if yes then is there any alternative if no then can you reduce its dose. Try finding a solution instead of just stopping the meds because you are a survivor of cancer and many people get killed by cancer.

I am really struggling with the anastrozole. My whole body hurts all the time. Hips, knees, shoulders, elbows, even random straight bones. I want to stop taking it and my doctor scares me back into continuing. I feel the same way, like now that chemo and surgery radiation are over I’m supposed to be able to get on with my life, but this stupid pill isn’t letting me.

Hello! Sorry to hear you're experiencing such awful side effects. I'm a nurse - have you talked with your doctor about stopping the metoprolol? If you're able to, keep an eye on your BP at home with a machine to make sure it isn't getting too high.
