Teen may be depressed

iwanttowakeup October 20th, 2021

I’m so worried about my daughter. She’s 17 and she keep saying she wants to change things about herself so that she stands out. She told me the other day that she doesn’t feel pretty. I tried to offer a few things that may help her and she turned them all down. I found myself frustrated and told her I’ll stay out of it then. She started crying. I feel like the worse mother in the world. Like I can’t get anything right. She doesn’t trust my opinion I think. Feels like she has no confidence in me at all. I think I’ve been too open about my own issues and experiences. I feel depression creeping up.

Hello, I hope this message finds you well. I am sorry to hear about your daughter and the fact that you think she may be struggling with depression. Unfortunately, many teens struggle with anxiety and/or depression. I want you to know that whatever she is feeling is not your fault and that you shouldn't beat yourself up. You are doing everything you can. Just try your best to be there for her and maybe make sure she knows that you are there for her and that she can talk to you about anything. I know you care about her and everything will be okay! Hang in there! <3
