My name is Courtney, I'm 18 years old and currently at college studying health and social care. I have a place to start at the University of Surrey to become a midwife in September and I cannot wait! I'm very nervous to be leaving home for the first time, as I'll be leaving my family and boyfriend behind, but it's an amazing opportunity! I suffer from anxiety and depression, and currently struggle managing my own, but find comfort in helping others, as this allows me to feel needed and important. I'm not what you'd stereotypically think when someone mentions depression and anxiety, I'm very loud, bubbly, love to meet new people, good sense of humour. I have three younger brothers, one with ADHD and autism, and one who is in the process of being diagnosed. I work as a specialist support worker for adults with schizophrenia and adults who are none verbal. During my time at my job, I have been severely physically abused, as the residents become very confused and frustrated. This has made me the person I am today, and taught me to be more patient, compassionate and empathetic.
