At the end of the day you know how much work you put in . You might not have to like what you do but be proud of how you do it. Your boss might never acknowledge what you do but someone does. Take pride in whatever you do regardless of recognition. Because that job could be a stepping stone and your hard work can pay off in whatever you do next

I would wait till my manager understands me and look on me to improve my ways to get the appreciation of my manager, though I would be hurt. I would wait for the opportunity to prove myself that I'm best indeed

Don't jump the gun and assume the worst of your manager. Perhaps, there's another reason for that someone to have been given the promotion. Maybe, his best is simply better than yours (like strengths, we each have our weaknesses!) Be upfront and talk it through with your manager (if he or she is talkable in that sense.) Else, bring it up to the people at HR. If you feel constantly nitpicked by the manager and the HR depart is pretty much keeping silent, it's time to lookout for another job - no one should be constantly made to feel worse at work or at home!
