I quit my day job recently because I wasn't enjoying it - it was causing my depression. I spent 8 months trying to make it work for me, and still ended up being bored out of my mind. It took a lot of courage facing up to my boss and my mom, and I had to resolve my self-doubt about 'not being able to make it' in another job or in a different business. At first, it was difficult making the quit work because I was still isolating myself socially at home; but over time I started participating in social groups and my life is better than ever now.
It's not bad or wrong to quit something you don't enjoy. At the same time, don't expect your quit to work right away if you've (like me) got a bad habit of seeing the negatives around you (e.g. less stability, you're a 'quitter', etc). There's a couple of adjustments to make mentally before you go ahead with the quit, especially if you've got some negative bias telling you that 'the job or career you want doesn't exist or won't make you any money'. Books like 'You Majored in What!?' and 'The Passion Economy' help dispel these kinds of myths.
I believe everyone can find jobs they can enjoy and play to their natural strengths to do good work. You can too. And it's okay to take a break for some time.

What about your job are you not enjoying? Can you just quit your job or do you need the employment at the moment? What or where would you like to do next? What’s out there available for you? Ask yourself some questions first as well as searching your area for job listings and opportunities. If you’re not happy in your job, absolutely you have the right to leave it, but is that an option for you and will it be a smart move right now? Having a plan for what comes next will help to minimize anxieties and stress, knowing that you have something secured for after will make the transition much easier, and more exciting. Schooling is always an option to look at, what do you really want to do and how can you make it happen.
