First off, recognize the instances in which you deal with stress in an unhealthy way. If you're overeating, drinking, using drugs, or people as a means to an end - immediately seek a professional's help. The first step in dealing with stress is to know what's stressing you out and attempt to mitigate that stress. If this thing is still stressing you out after you've tried to consolidate it, reflect. Think about the things in your life that will bring you joy and not just add to the stress. Working out is one of the most effective and enjoyable ways to deal with stress in life. It helps you out in the long run and allows you to vent in the short term. It's one of nature's healthiest cures. It also helps to write, find a hobby, or volunteer. Whenever you're feeling lousy - just knowing you've helped someone else can alleviate tension. Always tell yourself that no matter how large the problem may feel - you are capable of dealing with it.

While you cannot go back in time to fix the outcome of that situation, recognize that you did, or have done, all that you could to help yourself in the situation. Also recognize that the outcome could very well be out of your control.

Handling stress is a journey - one needs to practice it. Things that may help cope with stress are distraction and activity, having a set timetable or talking to people about the way you feel.

Stress is an exceptionally difficult burden to manage. Personally, the tactic I've always found the most helpful is to break it up: identify the issues that cause your stress (write them down if you have to), and brainstorm solutions to help you overcome these difficulties. Then you can work on putting these solutions into action.

Stress can be really scary. I think for me stress can often jump out from any number of directions: work, relationships, finances, school, etc. What I like to do is to try to get to the core of the problem and then see what can be done to relieve the stress. It is important to become aware of what possible stressors are as well as to look at resolutions. Mindfulness is key. Stress can seem to be daunting and overwhelming but by using meditation and being mindful of the here and now you can afford yourself time to think about the issues and then try to solve them as best you can.

There are some amazing ways to handle stress. Taking time out for you - even if only 15 minutes a day to gather your thoughts and relax can bring down stress just a little. Finding ways to relax through relaxation exercises, books on tape, or even sounds of nature online to play. If you drive a lot for your job, consider music, books, or educational cd's to help you improve your time while driving. Feed yourself positive statements rather than negative ones can be a big help.

I think that handling stress in a healthy way depends on the person. Sometimes when I feel stressed I like to walk my dog. It makes me get out in nature, it makes me exercise and it makes me take my mind off of the stresses in my life.
