You can feel more confident in the position you're in when you've acknowledged where you were before and where you want to go. By knowing where your position was, you learn about the positive progresses that you've made, and by fully aware where you want to go, you'll want to really see where you are now and find out how and where to continue in your current position. That's what I always do to feel more confident.

Tell yourself that the problem you are having is only temporary and take deep breaths to slow down your heart rate. Tell yourself positive feedback and that you will make it through whatever is holding you back personally. I have had major problems with confidence in Calculus class. It really took a beating on my own personal confidence and the confidence i had in my ability to do math. The trick I used to make it through the class was preparing for it as best as I could and to keep my anxiety level down was to count back from one hundred by twos to give my brain something else to think about. The technique can work for problems other than tests or quizes. If that does not work, I would look into talking with a true consular or therapist.

The easiest things to do - to generally feel more confident - are kind of silly, but they usually are a good first step. Positively reinforce yourself in the mirror: "I am great at [x]" and other similar things more specific to your situation. Try to smile, even if you don't feel like it. It's one of those weird feedback loops our bodies have built it - it's been scientifically shown that when you smile, regardless of mood, there's a significant chance your mood will actually improve.

Why not try writing down 3 great things that happened today. They can be small things like, drank coffee out of my favourite mug, or got praise for my work today.

I relate to the good things... one honest praise that i got in several years matters a lot to me, or an unexpected message from an old friend. I try to be objective and compare the results of my work to the others'. I look at the people I admire most and try to understand what is it that makes them valuable.

If you are confident and appreciate where you are now, there are probably a better chance you may go up to a better position. An Employer will not consider someone that is negative where they are.
