Sometimes I hear a voice in my head that tells me negative things like everyone hates me or I should kill myself. What should I do?

If a friend talked to you the way that voice did, would you keep them around? No. You'd know that they were lying and hated you, you'd distance yourself. That voice isn't you, that voice isn't trying to help you. That voice is a monster, what do we do with monsters? We rid ourselves of them. Don't ever listen to the voice in your head if it tells you horrible things. Don't believe it's mean, cruel and unjust lies. You are your own person, and some monster shouldn't tell you whether you deserve to live or not. Stay strong, tell the voice who you are. Show it how incredible and beautiful you are. Never let the voice win.

Hearing voices in your head can be linked to depression, bipolar, anxiety and schizophrenia. Seeking professional advice is the best way to go when having auditory hallucinations as they are serious, especially when they are telling you negative things. If you can't or won't seek professional help then distraction techniques are usually really good for things like this. A distraction technique is where you find something to do that will distract you from whatever is bothering you, in your case it is the voices in your head. Listening to music, watching films/shows, walking/exercising, spending time with animals, drawing, knitting, talking to friends and/or family (not necessarily about the voices although this may help) and because I love horses, I am going to suggest volunteering at your local yard :)

Imagine a stop sign in your head or firmly tell yourself no, these are not your thoughts. Think about something positive and promptly move on. You could also have a go to phrase to repeat to yourself whenever you catch yourself having negative thoughts.

First you try to realize the difference between opinion and fact, and remember that you have no idea what everyone thinks. Second, decide, how serious is this? Should you get professional help or are your thoughts manageable with just knowing that they are there and catching them in order to change them?

I don't know but I wish I could help you.
I've had a voice that pops up in my head out of the blue for no reason whatsoever that I can tell.
My voice, demon, psyche, whatever you call it keeps speaking in past tense like it already happened. Same phrase, nothing more to it "Eddie killed himself".

It's important to remember that these thoughts and feelings are often unconscious responses to stress or to certain circumstances in your life. They are not rational, and they are not true. These thoughts can often subside with patience and self-care. If they don't, it may be time to seek professional help. But you can do things like breathing exercises, journaling, talking to listeners on 7 Cups, etc. to try to ease them.

That sounds really stressful. I can imagine you’ll start feeling really demotivated and insecure if this keeps going on. I’d try talking to someone about it and try to work through why I was hearing that voice. It could be a reflection of what you are thinking about yourself.

Since you phrased the thoughts as 'voices', imma share some coping mechanisms I use ^^ They might not work for you and they're certainly not the best option, but, essentially, I just ridicule the thoughts so much they lose power.
First, I recognise that the 'I' is my consciousness, the thoughts are just thoughts. And when i hear the thoughts saying i should //// myself, i think 'well i'm sorry susan I've been doing all the work in the house for __ years drinking water and going into the sunshine you don't even do anything how dare you tell me what to do' or 'that's good and well but my favourite webtoon updates this friday call again in 3-5 business days'.
There's a post i saw once- if you feel like you can't make it through the next year, or month, or week, or day, just focus on the next minute and slowly work it through. I do have to say, these are pretty eccentric and even for me they don't work all the time and I'm sorry I don't know how to deal with the 'everyone hates you part', but hopefully this, uh- it's an option you can explore ^^ Take care, fren
