There are several possibilities. You might just be growing, but that can also be a major sign of depression and you might want to check for other symptoms as well.

It could be a lot of different things. It could be because of increased physical or mental activity. Sleep is one way that we can rest our mind and body and if you're exerting more energy than normal your body might be more tired. Sleeping too much can also be a sign of underlying health problems or even depression. If you're concerned, speak with your primary doctor who will be able to rule out illnesses and/or refer you for appropriate care.

Sleeping too much can mean that you are experiencing mental or physical difficulties. For example, some people sleep too much because they took medications, which can affect their sleep patterns. Sleeping too much can also be a sign of depression or anxiety, for example, they broke up with their significant other. They tend to sleep more because they are sad or tired. Sleeping too much can mean different things, it is better to see a doctor if sleeping too much is a repetitive activity for you.

Sleeping too much is usually a sign of some mental complication, however, it could also mean that you overworked your body at some point and your body is trying to repay that sleep debt. Although, there are some psychological issues that can lead to sleeping too much like Depression, Sleep Apnea and Narcolepsy but I suggest you seek professional help if you want a diagnosis and further help.

It means that your body is either very exhausted and needs more sleep than normal or your body is just craving sleep. A normal sleep schedule is up to 8 hours. Anything less than that will make you more tired and exhausted than usual. However, it can sometimes mean something more seriously medically. I would highly suggest talking to a doctor and see what they have to say about your sleeping patterns. I'm sure everything will be normal, but at the same time, it's doesn't hurt to get a professional opinion. I hope you seek the answers you hope for.

It’s normal for sleep to fluctuate or go through times when going to bed on a regular basis is not a personal goal and sleep schedules are difficult to maintain.
Also sometimes the body is fighting off a cold or illness and needs extra self care.
But if it really feels like too much, this could indicate burn-out & a need for mental self care.
Have you been avoiding thinking and fixing something in your life? are you feeling malaise and sleepwalking through life? Those can be signs for a need to reflect on life and feed our souls with some healthy choices.
Of course, a doctor’s advice would be needed to confirm whether it could be a physical issue.

I would first ask - what does 'sleeping too much' mean? Nonetheless, from a personal experience it could mean a number of things. For example, if you are an introvert but you are spending a lot of time surrounded by people, you will need that extra time to recharge your batteries. Another explanation could be that you are feeling sad and sometimes even depressed. Moreover, I have recently come to understand that sleeping 'too much' and being tired could also be related to your overall gut health and if you are a woman to your hormonal imbalance (PCOS, endometriosis), menstrual cycle and eating habits. I hope this helps. Love xxx

If your sleeping cycle is somehow changed it could mean that there were some changes in your environment. Maybe you are dealing with a lot of stress lately so your body is trying to heal itself through sleep, or maybe you are missing out on dealing with some problems linked to your emotional state. If your daily functioning is not as good as before, you should try to ask for professional help. It could also mean that you are dealing with loneliness or feeling trapped so you feel better during sleep than during waking hours. Reasons can be quite different and they should be considered individually.
