it could mean that you may not have a routine set up or that you may not be getting enough sleep or is getting too much sleep. It does not necessarily mean that you are depressed.

Oversleeping does not necessarily mean an underlying illness, however it could reflect depression or anxiety. If you experience any negative feelings or changes in appetite or interest, you should inspect more closely. Perhaps talk with a doctor or professional.

For people who suffer from hypersomnia, oversleeping is actually a medical disorder. The condition causes people to suffer from extreme sleepiness throughout the day, which is not usually relieved by napping. It also causes them to sleep for unusually long periods of time at night.

I am currently taking AP Psychology and we have learned about sleeping and sleep disorders. You're body is basically like a bank. Let's say to keep good balance you sleep 8 hours a day. Then one day you sleep for 6 now you're in debt two hours and your body is trying to make up for it so you'll have to sleep more.

It could (not necessarily would) mean that you are either depressed, maybe anxious or overstressed. This types of situations can make you sleep too much, especially if you're taking medication for those purposes. However, every case is a case and sleeping is a very complex matter even for experienced doctors, so there's the possibility you might just be pushing too hard and end the day exausthed.

It could be any number of things. It could be that you aren't eating right. It could mean you are dehydrated or low on vitamins. It could mean that your melatonin levels aren't right and maybe a doctor could help those things. It could also be that you are depressed or are suffering from some other mental illness. With any of these things it's important to talk to a professional about this issue. Sleeping too much can do just as much damage as sleeping too little.

It is possible you might have a medical issue that needs to be brought up with your doctor. It could also be a symptom of medication. If you think none of these are possible, it might be a mental health issue. People suffering from depression often state they sleep too much. Regardless, it would be a very good idea to talk to a doctor.
