Happiness can be someone hard to catch. Joy is important though, even in bad times you can feel like everything is going to be alright in the end. Happiness is not always the emotion that you want to feel 100 percent of the time. In our society we discourage being sad and exalt being happy. We need every emotion in our belt to be able to function.

There will be a time when you feel content with what you have and who you are. Happiness is not perfection and when we seek that, we will never be happy, but if we seek contentment, that is much more attainable and fulfilling.

When you can share from abundance instead of giving by taking away from yourself. That's one sign that you are content and contentment is the father of happiness. Contentment means that you aren't missing but that doesn't mean there isn't more to have or more to accomplish it just means you aren't missing, that you aren't lacking. When you can see that there's more out there for you and still not feel you are lacking then you know you are happy.

Rather than seeking happiness, I believe its more important and realistically achievable to feel content. As when assessing if you're "truly happy" you may first look at how you feel in the moment, "am I happy right now?" YES/NO - but then after you've cleared that stage you may immediately think about upcoming things that may mediate this happiness, and as not everything we have to do makes us happy - and so we suddenly lessen our current happiness. However, "content" simply refers to how you feel in the moment - "I am content in this moment?" YES/NO. Okay great.
