Put a name to the things you feel will help you feel more in control. Also, accepting difficult emotions as an okay and valid part of who you are rather than fighting them, will greatly diminish their power over you.

Maybe you're thinking about it wrong. You can't stop feeling emotions, and being overwhelmed by them is just how they sometimes manifest. You need to change your perspective, instead of trying to stop them, you need to learn to process them. Whenever you find yourself being overwhelmed, ask yourself why? Try and understand why you're overwhelmed. It's not always a bad thing.

Don't overact , try to deal with one thing at a time. Try to understand what is the reason you're feeling that way.

It's very difficult to stop being overwhelmed by your own emotions. I find that a good way to do it is to write down every feeling you have and if possible, the reason why you're feeling that way.

Breathe. Breathe in, then exhale slowly, Repeat. Then take a moment to reflect on what is going on. Claim and call out the emotion. Hey! Frustration, leave me alone. I am allowed to feel frustrated but I will not let you own me!
