Transgender folk feel like the opposite sex mentally. But gender is really all about your emotions (and, as we shall later see, also about the way you think logically too!) In short, are you happy and satisfied with the way society treats you on the basis of gender or are you not?

You are transgender when your biological sex (female / male) does not match with how you identify yourself as. For example, you may have a vagina but you don't identify as a woman, but rather as a man. The same can happen for a person who has a penis but identifies as a woman. Gender is our self-identification as a man or a woman (or none, or both even), and does not depend on our biological sex.

That's a question only you can answer. No one call tell how you feel on the inside but you. Are you feeling wrong in your body? Do you feel like you belong as the other gender? Those are some baseline questions to be asking yourself.

If you identify yourself as the gender you were not assigned with at birth. So if your physical form is female, but you mentally and emotionally feel like you're male or the opposite. And you feel trapped in your own body perhaps, because your outer appreance doesn't reflect how you believe and feel you are on the inside.

To answer this, you should know the difference between sex and gender. Your genitals determine your sex, your brain determines your gender. People whose sex and gender do not match up are transgender. For example, if you were biologically born with female genitals but you do not identify as a girl and felt like you were a boy, you are transgender.

I honestly think that it takes some time figuring out who you are. Gender is fluid, so explore it and see what makes you comfortable identifying as! You'll feel it when you find something that makes you happy.

At the heart of the question "How do I know if I am transgender?" is usually someone feeling misaligned with their assigned gender at birth. This misalignment is discomfort in your current gender and your current gender role. Examining your discomfort and researching the way that others have examined theirs is a good way to know if you are transgender.
