First of all, I despise the term atypical anorexia. Anorexia is an illness no matter what weight you are at - it is a mental issue just as much as it is a physical one. However, to address your question: recovery is possible. It is difficult and it requires commitment. Things that helped me were to remind myself that I can be strong and active and healthy without being dangerously thin. I found pictures of athletes that I admire with fit and sturdy bodies and I reminded myself that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. I worked with counselors to plan helpful and simple meal plans for upcoming weeks. I developed strategies to deal with my anxiety around food. Most importantly of all, I learned that it is okay to eat healthy! You don't have to cut out food or restrict to be healthy and happy, and you also don't have to eat everything in sight to be considered 'recovered'! There is a healthy in-between. Take it in steps.

Atypical anorexia, along with anorexia in general and eating disorders in general, isn't quite something that you can just "get over". It takes a lot of time and work to recover (but it is SO worth it!). The first step would be talking to someone and getting help and support as you make this important journey.

Learn to develop a positive attitude. Wake up every morning and look in the mirror and tell yourself 'I'm beautiful.' You may not believe it at first, but when you drill it everyday in to your head, it starts to make you realize how beautiful you truly are.

there is no best way, honestly. everyone is different in the eating disorder that they suffer. i think the best thing for you to do though to get you on the right track is try seeking out some help, maybe a therapist or an eating disorder clinic. truthfully, it took many months doing it on my own and many mistakes but visiting an ED clinic helped me get myself together and realize my priorities which were to be healthy and happy leading to success in other places of my life than being sick.

The best way to get over atypical anorexia is to think of yourself before others. Because you can never please everyone, the same as how not everyone can please you. So take care of yourself before others and don't mind what they think of you.
