I overeat a lot too so I try to do other things. I have noticed that I over eat when I watch tv so I don't allow myself to eat while I watch tv. I also notice that I eat when I am bored so when I notice I am bored I try to go see a friend instead of eat. Another helpful thing I do, is I try to keep as little food as possible in my room so I just don't eat it when I have low self control

Know what a normal portion is, and even if you want more, make sure you discipline yourself. Tell yourself, "No, enough is enough, I can have more of this another day."

The simple answer is to stop when you're no longer hungry, but this is easier said than done. The easiest way is to make a habit of no longer eating once you've finished your meal. This means taking a bowl or a plate and deciding what portion you're going to eat today. Example: pouring a bowl of cereal. Once that bowl of cereal is eating, your meal is over for that day. Eventually you will be used to abiding by the portions you've decided upon and can control your eating habits much more easily than before

Every time you're about to eat something, stare at it and think. Is eating this going to help me? Will it make me feel better? After I eat this, am I going to be satisfied or regret it? Just overthink it. That helps me quite a bit. If that doesn't work, grab a rubber band and put it on your wrist. Every time you're about to over eat, flick yourself with the rubber band. Hard. Hopefully it'll stick in your head so next time you go to get extra food, you'll associate over eating with pain.

I think it would help to eat light snacks throughout the day to try and trick your mind that you are eating more than you actually are.
