I think it's more common than people think, to be thinking about their ex. You shared memories with this person, connections, feelings and emotions. They were part of your world for a period of time. So just like when we reflect on other memories in our lives, I think it's normal to reflect on these memories with our ex as well.
Experiences that we have had in the past can really help us to understand how we are in the present moment, and what to do in the future.
So don't feel confused or sad if you're thinking about your ex, it can be quite normal.

Because he/she had been someone important in your life before. It's normal though to have this kind of feeling. This doesn't mean you're still into him/her but it's just some normal feeling that everyone will get in life. I mean, I always woke up thinking of Taylor Swift but we'd never been together before lol. Like why not? So it's normal, and it really doesn't mean anything! You will be fine, buddy.

You might wake up thinking about your ex because of either a break up you recently had or worried about something your ex didn't share with you.

Because you cared about him/her and love or affection still can be there after you both went separate ways.

Your ex is still running inside your head. Clear the thoughts. Forgive your ex all the time you come across the same thinking and move on. Surely if you forgive, you wont wake up next time and you will have the best sleep ever.

Because you simply care. They made you feel this special way that you miss feeling or can't forget, probably. It's fine to remember things that happened.

Our memories are hardcoded into our brain when accompanied by emotions. You remember them because you've felt for them. Try not to overthink them to the point of reviewing them over and over in your head. Just take the best parts and enjoy remembering these nice memories.

Oh well, I guess the answer is rather simple for this one - that might be if you still have feelings for your ex. Maybe not some troublesome feelings, but you feel like still part of you lives within your ex. That's nothing very bad if you are very sure that you are over your ex and if you don't suffer because of him/her.
