At night is usually when people go to sleep and everything gets quiet, therefore you are likely to have less distractions and night-time can easily become lonely. It also gets dark at night, which can make you feel depressed.

Let me say from experience, everything seems worse at night. For one you're tired and you can't process your emotions and cope with your feelings as well. Another problem is at night we tend to feel more alone. But its important to remember that we aren't alone and that tomorrow is a new day. Usually when I wake up after a night of feeling depressed I realize things weren't as bad as they seemed. Its hard to realize that when you're in the moment of course but remember it gets better. Sleep on it and deal with the sadness in the morning when your mind is in a bit better place.

It may be because the light has gone down so the darkness brings out the bad feeling from inside. At night we tend to thing of things more deeply as we have less of a distraction from everything around us.
