They are afraid to let anyone in and see whats really going on. They don't want to hurt anyone and want to seem like they are staying strong but in reality they are calling for help because they don't know what to do.

Depressed people tend to push loved ones away because they feel alone. Or they just feel like you don't want them around. The best thing you can do is show them you love them and support them.

Depressed people push loved ones away because they want to isolate themselves. Sometimes you want to and need to just disappear for a while.

Sometimes because we don't want to hurt them. We don't want to suck our loved ones into our depression, and hurt them too. Other times it's because we don't want to be seen this way amongst our friends. We don't want to be seen like this. We're afraid of their judgement. Then sometimes it's because we know that they cannot help us now. We know that we have chosen to be this, and no matter the effort they put in to try and help... it's not going to. We don't want them to try at the impossible.

Depressed people are usually self-depricating, or feel as if they are worthless, useless, or hurt other people. In situations I have noticed depressed people pushing loved ones away because they either feel that they cannot be/are not loved, or potentially harmful to that loved one.
