To continue the analogy that depression is like a world of grey, one must wonder, what kinds of things removed the color from that world to begin with? It could be neuroses that result from unstuck or unresolved traumatic experiences, or the absence of something that fulfils a certain need in the person.

Depression is linked with so many other issues. It's like a black hole in which you fall. Consider yourself as Alice, you fall in the rabbit's hole. Well depression is kinda like that. You find yourself being surrounded with all these thoughts making you dizzy. You think taking the pain out on yourself will make the pain inside go away but it doesn't. Depression leads to so many more issues. Self-harm, anorexia, bullimia, voices inside your head making you go paranoid. All of these are linked to depression.

Mental illnesses are really complex things. I think it is common for Depression to often also present in someone alongside Anxiety, but there are many other combinations that are possible. Those two are just talked about a lot in popular discourse because Anxiety and Depression are some of the more socially acceptable mental illnesses. It really just depends on the individual. Depression and eating disorders would also be a common combination.

Depression, if you ask me, has to do with anger and regret about the past. Once we can cut the cord to the past, and live in the now, you'll find that there is nothing to be depressed about. Sorrow needs a hook to hang on, but happiness, peace, love, and gratitude, are our very nature, once we scratch the surface hard enough.
