Constantly being unhappy. Not being able to do things which you used to enjoy and enjoying themselves like you did back then. Feeling like your on your own, like you have nobody to speak to or someone that understands

No emotions are clear; a mix of sadness and everyother emotion possible, a lack of motivation to do anything.

If I had to describe depression, it would be a lot messier than the sleeping all day, sad thought sort of depression. It’s the smell of your laundry that you haven’t done in over a week in a half but you can’t bring yourself to touch because it’s overwhelming. It’s the pile of dishes that grows slowly but surely, since sometimes you barely want to eat. It’s the sheets you haven’t washed in a long time because why wash them if all you ever do is stay at home in them? It’s the dust covering everything, yourself included. It’s the headache from sleeping too long, but not wanting to wake up. It’s the house you’ve let go but you can’t find the motivation to fix. It’s the books piled up that you know you want to read but you can’t focus on them. It’s the friends you don’t answer when they text, it’s the avoided questions of “what have you been up to lately” life has blended together into one continuous day, I don’t remember what was different about yesterday compared to today. It’s the knowing you have something wrong but having so few ways to fix it.

Depression to me is like a devil on my shoulder, or a shadow over me. It tells me that I'm not enough, or that I shouldn't bother doing things because it isn't worth it. It's a heavy weight I carry everywhere but with time will learn to hold and overcome. Depression doesn't define you.

Imagine you're wearing a belt. This belt has every tool to stop you from being attacked, basically: it makes you feel numb. It's great isn't it? Well, the belt also makes you feel heavy. You have trouble getting out of bed in the morning, or to stay outside for very long because of it. Some days it'll see like it's a bit lighter than others. Then you'll do everything you can, other days it'll be heavier. You'll do your best to hide this belt too, you'll wear a shirt over it for example, so people don't know about it. But in the end; you will always be wearing it.

A drowning sensation that feels like no one can save you because they can't see that you're drowning. They don't understand the daily struggles to just make it through the day. An endless tunnel that can't be escaped.

Depression is waking up as a skeleton in the morning and putting on a suit of skin and smiles for the day.
