Positivity is the key to life in general. Instead of focusing on everything that is negative try to think of things that would make it seem less negative. For example: I failed my test in class today my parents are going to be so mad! Change that and think, well if I failed this test, I know what I am bad at and what I am good at. If I work a bit harder there is a possibility that I can pass the next test.

If you’re constantly telling yourself “I can’t†you may convince yourself that’s the truth. Replace these negative words with positive ones instead. Tell yourself you will do your best or that you will try your hardest instead. Don’t let negative thoughts and feelings overwhelm you when you’re feeling down. Even if it’s only for a few hours a day, push your negativity aside and only focus on the good things in your life. Try filling your thoughts with words that make you feel strong, happy and in control of your life. Make a concentrated effort to focus on these words rather than those that make you feel like you are failing or incompetent.

Pull out a blank piece of paper and try to think of things that make you happy than write it down. It can be anything from a person you like to a flower you saw yesterday. Sometimes our minds take life or color out of things and you just have to remember things will get better. There is always something you can think of to make you happy. I promise things will get better and you will be able to think happy easier. Somethings take time but nothing takes forever. Just keep a notebook and write down things that make you happy inside.

it's a practice like anything else, and with practice, things get better! I know for me focusing on positive side, gratitude journal, asking questions like "what's good about this", what is good in my life - really helps.
What's been important is consistent practice, and it makes a difference. It's a commitment to myself.
There are also many other factors - when I exercise it's easier to think happier thoughts. Endorphins. I feel happier.
When I'm rested, when I sleep well, when I eat well - when I take care of me - it's easier to think happier thoughts.
