On 7Cups of Tea, you first have to become a listener; which isn't hard. It's a small test you have to pass, and then you can start helping people online by accepting requests. You can also learn extra topics on the tap called "Training". You can see your progress and how good you're doing on the tap "My Impact". I really hoped this helped! :)

There are a lot of sites where you can volunteer to help people, for example this one right here. Scroll to the bottom and under 'start connecting' there's a link called 'become a listener' and the rest is simple. You take a little course on listening skills, go through a mock chat, and then you are officially a volunteer trained listener here on 7 cups!

7 Cups. Beware, though, that the volunteer nature brings amateurs into the field, perhaps into cases where only professionals should intervene, but then again amateurs can be better than professionals, so it proves to be a gamble.
