Listen to them. People with depression sometimes just want to talk and have someone listen. Or sometimes they just don't want to be alone so just be with them. Let them know they aren't alone.

If it's someone you know just being there is nice. Cooking meals that can be heated in the microwave, because they won't want to cook. Maybe offering to clean or just being generally pleasant.

Deppression is hard to help with. Its gonna take some time... Try taking her/him places or try doing something fun with that person. Tell the person you love them and let them know you care. Help them clean up and get there life back on track. Help them love life again. Also... Get them a therapist or phsycologist. Help them out for a few months and check on them every once in a while.

You can help people with depression by showing you care, and stating that you understand how they feel and why whatever they are going through causes them to feel that way. Try subtly saying that getting better may be hard, but it's all worth it. Also, remind them that they are in control of their life and thoughts, and that no one can really help them get better but themselves.
