I think that you can, or at least be depressed and not put a label on it. I was depressed for a few months without putting a label on it-I think the reason I and some other people do this is because we're scared of the label. The word depression is really scary, it's a very terrifying diagnosis, but luckily, one that can be treated. If you're not sure, it's always a good idea to see a counselor or psychologist.

of course. if you ask, you already have one. try some sample tests online, those tell you whether you are depressed or not. if they say you are, then meet more friends and make yourself busy.. with anything.. that's the ONLY way. trust me.

Yes. I've been there, and I've seen friends there - when you're in the midst of it, it can be easy to live in denial/think it's 'just a phase'. Sometimes it does take your friends/family to point it out to you by laying down all the facts, and sometimes you realise it in hindsight, after you've gone through it.

Can you be depressed and not know it... I think you can be unconscious of your current mental state, yes. I think it can sneak up on you and if you are unfamiliar with such a concept it can take you by surprise one day when you understand what it is you are going through and how you are responding.

yes, you can be depressed and not know it. You not knowing it usually depends on how you respond to it. Everyone responds differently to depression.

I think so... especially if you don't know what the symptoms are! or only pay attention to certain ones. In fact, my most recent episode went largely undetected until it was well underway because, in part, I did not feel the suicidal urges that had accompanied previous ones. After quite some time I decided to take a screening test I'd used before and was astonished by the high score!

I think so. Depression can be an insidious disease, so it might stay unnoticed for some time or be confused for something else.

Yes, you can. Sometimes depression can be hard to diagnose, especially because there are different severity's.

Quite often then not, most people don't realize when they've gotten a mental illness because it's something that builds up, rather than something that just occurs in a day. However, people who are very emotionally close to you will often see the signs of depression and so, if they suggest seeing a psychiatrist, it would be best to go in for an appointment because it's better to be on the safe side :)

Yes it is possible to be depressed and not know it. It happens to many people. But if you want to know if you are depressed then talk to a doctor or to somebody else about it.
