I think the first step is reminding yourself that it isn't. Think about the actions you can take as an individual to improve your life and seek the appropriate support from your family, friends or even a group.

I step back from everything and analyse everything that I already have. Making sure I'm aware of the things that I'm grateful for and make me happy every day. I would make sure that I'm around people that I love and have a calming atmosphere. This helps me to unwind and appreciate the small things, because yes, the world is never always going to be in my favour, so I have to make sure that I appreciate everything I already have. This being my friends, boyfriend and family. I can make sure that I distract myself and occupy myself with things that I love doing.

I think challenging our own thoughts when we have feelings like this is a really powerful tool to use for situations like this. Start off by getting a sheet of paper or pulling up a word document on your computer or phone. Make a list with two columns. "Evidence for," and "Evidence against," At the top of page feel free to write about what thought you are challenging here with this. Then on one side, write all the evidence you have FOR this thought being true. And then on the other write all the evidence you have for this thought NOT being true. Often times when we sit down and map out our thoughts like this rationally and on paper -- it helps us realize that our first assumption really wasn't that accurate, and that we can breath - calm down, and relax. And come to a better grip on the situation in doing so.
