It is normal to feel scared to begin a new portion of your life, but the most important thing is that you are ready to begin college. Simple ways to do this are by mentally and physically preparing for college, by doing simple things like getting your things ready, and getting up at the time you would for college.

It's perfectly normal. This is a new and unknown experience for you. You didn't say why or what caused other members of your family to not be able to finish college but you could keep the reasons in mind as to “what not to do.” It's been a while for me, but one thing that helped was to just concentrate on one semester (or quarter) at a time. Also, think of this as your “job” right now. It's your “job” to study, learn, and get your education. Just like life, you will learn what works and what doesn't and adapt you behavior accordingly. BTW a college education is not the end of your education, it's the beginning. I wish you well.

I would believe so, depending on the person. A change in atmosphere, new people from all over, the possible stress of college life, the financial responsibilities, the dorm rooms and sharing (if you stay there), the college schedule, your sleep habits involved, the homework, etc.. The list goes on but being scared just means your mind and body is getting prepared for something new that you haven't done before. Think of it as natural response in your brain telling you you're going to feel scared so you can get yourself comfortable again when you settle in and get in the habit of it all.

Yes definitely! Going off to college represents many fears that are common. You may feel anxious and uncertain about what it is going to like as a new experience. You may be worried about leaving home, and living by yourself. Maybe you're worried about finding the studies hard? All normal. Try not to worry but please don't think you're the only one who'll be scared! Good luck :)

Yes! The anxiety that you are experiencing is quite normal. Many graduating high school seniors begin to have anxieties about whether they will be able to succeed in college. Some of these anxieties may also be about leaving the familiarity of your home, family, and friends. You are moving from a very secure sense of who you are and what you can do into the college world of the unknown. Your fears are probably enlarged because everyone is assuming that you can't wait to get to college and that you will continue to be the great student that you have always been.
