there is a good chance you were genetically disposed with a disproportionate dopamine release in your brain connected to the consumption of alcohol which over time has caused an increase in alcohol as a priority in your limbic system.

Drinking and using other substances is a coping mechanism that is often used when a persons pain in great enough that few other things can ground them or put them in control. If we want to change our actions we need to look at why those actions make us feel better. Substance issues are something that need to be worked on at the same time as the underlying issue.

I think the question should rather be, do you want to stop getting drunk? Drowning your sorrows in alcohol does not take them away. What is making you feel like you need to numb the emotions with alcohol? It only takes away the pain for a little while, but then nothing changes.....you are back in the same situation. Dealing with the problem is better than drowning the problem. You have to face your enemy in order to defeat your enemy. You will never be able to face your enemy if you are being overwhelmed by your emotions and then drowning them in order to try not feel them.....Feelings of regret are also not going to help.....You can do this!

Honestly it’s probably an addiction. Of course there’s always rehab, but you have to WANT to get better to go there. But it’s honestly your best bet. Now I don’t have experience but I want you to be safe. And being an alcoholic can cause some serious damage to your body and your life. So I’d say as soon as you can find a rehab place close to you, lock or throw away all your drinks and try your hardest to sober up. It can only help you. You may relapse and that’s okay. As long as in the end you get better.
