One healthy distraction would be talking to a close family member, friend or loved one. It helps if it's someone who knows what you're going through. Talk to them when you're not feeling anxious, tell them that you will be reaching out when you do feel that way and let them know what the best ways to help you are. That way, they'll know what you need and be able to help you in the best way possible.
Another great distraction is doing diaphragmatic breathing exercises. There's an app called calmharm that features this. You inhale as the circle expands and exhale as it contracts. Try to breathe deeply so that your stomach fills with air and your shoulders don't go up.
When I graduated from university, my anxiety became really bad. I couldn’t force myself to concentrate and do something for couples of hours. I used to sit in front of the mirror, staring at my own face for 5 hours ahead. At first my family didn’t take the problem seriously, then in a couple of months they made me to visit a doctor. Thus, I started the treatment of how to become a normal person again. The first step was to go to yoga classes. I remember when I said “what a stupid thing to do!â€. However, it helped me to find my inner peace and get rid of all negative thoughts. Now, I am planning to visit Bali yoga school and get more experience on how to meditate and breath properly. Finally, my advice for people who suffer from anxiety disbalances is to think about yoga more seriously and not to neglect it.
Yoga and Meditation is the good and healthy alternative to distract yourself from any kind kind of anxiety or health issue. I will not call it an distraction it is a cure for that. With the help of yoga your body starts to work perfectly and it also has soothing effect on mental health, and meditation will help you in cure of emotional and mental health. If you ask an good and healthy distraction from me then pursuing your hobby like Drawing, dance, singing, reading or whatever you want to do is the best way. You will definitely feel good by doing that.
Hi there, I have experienced bad anxiety and panic attacks a fair amount in my life so I understand the feeling of complete frustration when you feel unable to calm it down. Luckily, there are methods out there that can serve as a good and healthy distraction when your anxiety gets really bad. Different methods work for different people, sometimes you can find the best method for you really quickly and other times it may take a while but there are methods that you can try.
One method that people are very fond of is the grounding method. Name 5 things you can see, 4 things you can feel, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell and 1 thing you can taste. This allows you to ground/anchor youself.
Another method is to recite something in your head. Something that I like to do is recite a speech that I had to write for an english class. It was about a year and a half ago now so it requires some concentration. Maybe you wrote a speech, or there's a song, poem or something similar that you would find useful to repeat in your mind, or you could even say it outloud if you find this works for you.
There are many methods out there, some may work and some may not work. I really hope you find the responses people are giving helpful and that you are able to find good and healthy methods that can help you when your anxiety becomes bad. I wish you the best of luck!
