What is Mental Health?
According to WHO (2001), “Mental Health is a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community”. Positive thinking
I understand that sometimes academics and personal challenges make you feel stuck in negativity. One of the things that helped me as an international student is to keep thinking positive thoughts. Positive thinking has many health benefits but the most important one is it reduces stress and promotes mental wellness (Mayo Clinic Staff, n.d). A good way to help you keep positive thinking is exercising positive self-talk. The following steps will help you focus your positive self-talk:
C.A.T.S
- Check in with your feelings
- Acknowledge your feelings
- Take time to process your feelings
- Start finding ways to shift your thinking
