What is Health Anxiety?
Health Anxiety ( hypochondria) is where worries about health ( worrying about being ill or becoming ill), begins to have a big impact on your life.
People with health anxiety may:
- Often worry about their health.
- Often check their body for signs of illness (lumps, abnormalities).
- Often ask for reassurance from others that they aren't ill.
- Worry about the doctor/ tests missing things.
- Look at lots of online health information/ advice.
- Avoid things featuring serious illness (tv programmes, news)
- Acting ill just in case you were ill (avoiding strenuous activity etc.)
- Mistake their anxiety symptoms as signs for illness.
Ask yourself: Have you worried about your health in the past? How did you manage these worries?
