Suggested Materials

I draw on practically any surface available to me. Notepads, grocery lists, napkins, printer paper, sketchbooks. For this path, use whatever you have around the house or treat yourself to a new sketchbook, preferably one that you can carry around because once you get into this, you’ll want to doodle or draw instead of zone out on your phone.

You can use pen, pencil, or markers. Sharpies are my favorite thing to draw with. If you use anything other than a ballpoint pen, make sure it doesn’t bleed through your paper and make a mess (although not all messes are "bad", amirite?). Try not to use an eraser, this is about being in the moment and in the process. Do your best to stick with the page you started with. The urge to start over because you "messed up" is strong, but how can we reframe that to view it as an opportunity to see something else?

Remember rule number one? There is no right or wrong way to practice creative self-care. Meet yourself where you are at, if the little voice inside your head tries to tell you that you made a mistake, try to say whatever and keep going. Do your best, show up, and let go of the outcome. That's process in action!
