Strengthening the Willpower for Positive Focus - Part 1
The fourth stage for moving forward involves focus on the willpower for positive reinforcement. Having a strong will power that can give us the drive, courage, determination and persistence to keep moving forward focusing on positive thoughts and feelings.
Some of the ways we can strengthen our willpower is:
1. Improving our self-awareness 2. Having specific goals and prioritizing them correctly 3. Take care of our physical health 5. Building a strong support system 5. Having a continuous source of inspiration/motivation 6. Mindfulness.
Let’s explore these ways more below!
Improve your Self-Awareness
Self- awareness is all about consciously knowing what we are doing each day. Look for ways to monitor your thoughts, emotions and actions to focus on the present moment properly.
Consider these points or questions to improve your self-awareness:
- Try and identify things that make you feel better.
- What is going on in your mind?
- Try to remember a moment when you felt really happy, write a short story describing it. How does it make you feel in the present moment as you recall it?
- Imagine a conversation that you'd like to have with someone in your life, what would you say to them? how do you think they would react?

Having specific goals and prioritizing them correctly
Try to have specific goals and prioritize the goals correctly, so that you can focus on what’s important.
For example - A specific goal can sound something like: Everyday minimum 30 min yoga to lose 10 pounds in 2 months.
Mentioning the type of physical activity (Zumba or skipping or gym or playing sports or yoga etc), duration, target of losing pounds within a certain time period and made the goal more clear.
It becomes easier to work on the goals when they seem simple and specific. Focus on one day at a time, one goal at a time. Maybe you can also consider a checklist/to do list of tasks to be worked on daily.
- A year from now I would like to _____( Complete the sentence).
This can be your long term goal. Divide this goal into small chunks and work on them one mini goal at a time.
