One of the first steps in finding and pursuing our purpose and meaning is to get more in touch with what we feel passionate about. Sacker (2007) said, “When people . . . discover their passions, they discover their own true selves” (p. 87). In this quote, Sacker is not talking about the emotion we call passion. He is referring to something more personal, which reflects what we love and love to do. In other words, what we feel motivated and excited about. It is important to find, honor, and engage in our passions. Sacker also suggests that as we find, and honor, and engage our passions, we don’t have enough time left to engage in self-defeating and self-destructive activities in our lives. Keeping active in our passion keeps us connected to that which can bring us more happiness and contentment in our lives.

To reflect on your passions, answer the following questions in the box below:

  1. What is it that you get up in the morning for?
  2. What do you look forward to and what do you love doing when you have the time?
