Step 15: Future Life History and Autobiography Activity
Find some time you can be alone to write your own five-page “Life History or Autobiography.” To write your “future life history and autobiography,” imagine what you would like to be like and what you would like to experience and achieve during the next 20 years of your life. As you write your future autobiography, pretend that 20 years have passed and that you are now writing about what has already happened. Briefly describe what you have done with your life, what you were like, and what relationships you enjoyed (e.g., marriage, children, extended family, etc.), what your outstanding qualities and accomplishments were, and which contributions you made to loved ones, society, your church, and your profession that were most significant. After you have written your “future life history and autobiography,” share it with your therapist, spiritual leader, or close friend. Discuss with your helper what your life history or autobiography reveals about your vision and purpose in life and use the box below to review and reflect on any insights.
