Step 14: The Benefit of the Vision Road Map

In the Holy Bible are writings of prophets who declared their visions. Their visions came from a higher or Holy source. When a vision of one’s life purpose and mission come from God, or another transcendent source, it becomes a revelation. A revelation gives us knowledge of what can be or will be for us, and if accepted, this knowledge can be a very powerful source of hope, guidance, and focus in our lives. When we know that we have a God given, or transcendent purpose for our life, then it is easier to find positive meaning in our life experiences. When we know there is a reason for what is happening to us – if even if we don’t fully know what that reason is – it gives us increased faith and strength to keep going through life’s challenges. As we discover the meaning in our life experiences, we become much more capable of coping with and growing from them.

Understanding desire and vision are ways to help us get clearer about what our priorities are in life and what we value most. Our vision and sense of mission help us decide how we will spend our time, where we will spend our energy, where our investments of effort will be, and where our heart will be. A vision is a road map to keep us on the road to take us to those things that we desire in the most heartfelt deepest manner.

Creating a Vision Road Map:

Please reflect on, ponder, and write a few responses to the following questions to begin the creation of your vision road map:

1) What do I know about my purpose or calling in life? (Focus on what you do know, even if it is small, and do not get stuck in focusing on what you do not know). Write down a sentence or two.

2) Seek guidance (from God or another personal spiritual source, through prayer, meditation, mindful exploration, solo nature time, and reflection) on what your mission, calling, and purpose is in your life. Write down a sentence or two.

3) Reflect on your deepest desires and dreams for your life. Write down a sentence or two.

4) Reflect on what you understand about your purpose or calling in life. Write down a sentence or two.

5) Visualize in your mind and heart, a vision for living out those dreams and desires – What does it look like? What do I see? Write a sentence or two.

6) What steps will l have to take to transform my vision into reality in my life? Write a sentence or two.

7) What small or big steps can I take, even today, towards fulfilling that mission (allowing and enabling that vision to become “what it might become.”)? Write a sentence or two.
