Social Anxiety Challenges

Facing our fears can be extremely difficult, and these challenges are meant to give you a starting point in facing fears and anxieties linked to social situations. Feel free to start with the challenge that seems least stressful to you, and work up to ones that are more difficult. 

Remember, it's important to respect your own boundaries as well, and it's okay if some of these things are too stressful or worrying to try out yet! We're all at different places in our journey, and comfortable with different things. 

Challenges:

  • Go for a walk outside
  • Talk to a new person
  • Wear something you wouldn't normally wear
  • Ask an open ended question to keep a conversation going
  • Reach out to someone you've lost contact with
  • Make/ maintain eye contact during a conversation
  • Go somewhere you've never been before
  • Order something in a cafe or restaurant without rehearsing it in your head first
  • Sit somewhere in a restaurant that you wouldn't usually sit
  • Eat in instead of getting take out
  • Start a conversation with a stranger about the weather
  • Call someone on the phone
  • Go to the shops alone
  • Be the first one to enter a building, instead of a friend/ partner going first
  • Arrive somewhere on time/ a few minutes late instead of super early!
