Second Exercise - Hatching
Lines, lines, lines! Do lines feel calming or the opposite? Is the repetition soothing? Everyone experiences these things differently... give it a try and notice how it makes you feel.
For this second exercise, fill the paper with parallel lines. Make vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines. See which direction feels more natural. Draw with long, short, medium strokes of the pen. Turn the paper, combine marks and directions. Try closing your eyes, drawing in different directions, and even switch hands. Once again, pay attention to how you are holding your pen… is your grip really tight? What happens when you loosen it up a bit? If you have multiple pens/pencils/markers, switch to a different one. Pause and see if you notice any differences.
