Resource: How to Calm Anxiety - 7 Simple Habits
This great resource by @Jem7Cups gives some great habits to create for managing anxiety.
Summary:
- Prepare if possible to help you feel more relaxed and ready for what you are about to do.
- Ask yourself: Realistically - what's the worst that can happen? This can allow you to put things in perspective when sometimes anxiety causes us to make mountains out of molehills.
- Visualise positively - this can help us to see things in a more positive way, instead of focusing on the worst case scenario. A great method for doing this is given in the article!
- Slow things down and use stomach breathing - this can be a really good way to re-focus and relax, a few minutes before facing a stressful situation.
- Assume rapport in hard social situations - pretty much, pretend that instead of walking into a room of strangers or acquaintances, everyone you speak to is your best friend! This may sound difficult, but it can help you to feel more comfortable in stressful situations.
- Remember: people aren't analysing you! Sometimes with anxiety it can feel like everyone is watching or judging you. However, people are usually more concerned with other things, and sometimes putting things into perspective can help to reduce anxiety.
- Tell yourself you're excited! This can enable you to harness anxiety and transform it into a positive energy to change your perspective.
Ask yourself: Which of these habits seems most helpful for you? How can you implement it into your life?
