Mindset Matters - Chronic illness (Optional)

In America alone, Nearly half (approximately 45%, or 133 million) of all Americans suffer from at least one chronic disease {source : ncbi} meaning chronic illness is unfortunately quite prevalent, with this comes many challenges that can be difficult to face and very impactful on positivity

Chronicle illness or lifelong condition / diagnosis: lifelong diagnosis' or general ill health can not only limit what a person does but make them suffer immeasurably, this being completely out of their control can feel unfair and cruel, this pain and lack of control can limit hope and positivity

Unfortunately, each illness can come with unique challenges meaning pain and support can really range but there's always help! Remember despite physical illness, most people struggling emotionally (or diagnosed with mental health conditions) are capable of experiencing relief and live a satisfactory life with the help of self-management/coping/recovery tools, treatments as well as a healthy support system! Mindfulness can be an especially helpful tool in staying happy with an illness

An activity you can consider doing is:

  • Write a letter to your body and mind. what would you like to say to each part?

  • Illness especially chronic or life long can come with many impacts could you write down some impacts this illness has on you and your overall outlook?

  • We want you to know we're here for you! Now you've acknowledged that could you also write down some ways you could overcome or reduce those impacts?
