Learning De-escalation

Remain kind, compassionate and patient when approaching difficult situations.

  • If members are frustrated/angry/triggered something surprisingly obvious can de-escalate - validating how they feel.
  • Changing the topic by throwing in an ice-breaker. Sometimes ice-breakers can be very effective and other times they will be ignored. If they are ignored, try something different,
  • Complimenting someone. This is a way to try and encourage a supportive environment. Try to think of something genuine to say. Be also careful to not show favoritism, by always just complimenting a handful of people.
  • Complimenting someone's profile picture.
