Introduction
This training path is designed for volunteer listeners at 7 Cups. Active listeners, as part of their training through the 7 Cups Academy (www.7cups.com/academy/), will complete this training path to develop their skills in assessing and accommodating users’ preferences.
This training path is adapted from Personalizing Psychotherapy: Assessing and Accommodating Client Preferences by Drs. John C. Norcross and Mick Cooper (published by the American Psychological Association, 2021). Norcross and Cooper maintain the copyright and intellectual property rights to this material. Additional information about and copies of the Cooper-Norcross Inventory of Preferences can be found at C-nip.net.
Each step in this training path contains a narrative and a short activity or video clip. We anticipate that listeners-in-training will complete the 13 steps in sequence in a total time of 2 to 3 hours.
Here are the 13 steps:
- Understanding Client Preferences
- Recognizing the Power of Preference Work
- Identifying Your Scope and Limits of Competence
- Assessing Client Preferences
- Practicing Preference Invitations
- Getting to Know the C-NIP
- Incorporating the C-NIP into Practice
- Adopting Client Preferences
- Offering Adapted Preferences
- Offering Alternatives to Client Preferences
- Referring to Another Service
- Avoiding Common Pitfalls
- Embracing Personalized Care
A warm welcome to this training path on working with your client's preferences. Let’s get started.
