“Increasing Confidence and Self-Esteem” Take Away 6

Persistence is key - Confidence and Self-esteem

Persistence is the quality that allows someone to continue doing something or trying to do something even though it is difficult or opposed by other people. You did not wake up one day and found that you don't have a lot of confidence or that you lack self-esteem. It happened gradually over time. Similarly, improving your self-esteem and confidence will take time and most importantly persistence.

Persistence can mean continuing to challenge your negative thoughts, continue to practice gratitude, and continue to make use of the other exercises and tools given in this path.

So make sure you are persistent and consistent in your efforts. Doing a little work every day for 30 days is worth more than doing a lot for a week. You are in this for the long run.

How can you be more persistent in your efforts?

Setting Simple Goals - Exposure

Focus on setting simple goals. Meeting one new person every day — or even just one person in any social setting — helps to build your confidence, gather forward momentum and create a sensation of steady growth within you.

To begin the process for yourself, set a small goal that you'd like to achieve within a certain amount of time. For instance - Invite a friend over to meet for a cup of coffee at a familiar location on the weekend. Begin with steps that you'd feel more comfortable to achieve, then find ways to challenge yourself each week.
