Hobbies to reduce Anxiety
Hobbies can be amazing distractions and stress relievers, but anxiety can often make it hard for us to continue doing hobbies if our stress gets in the way.
Here are a few ideas for some hobbies that are relaxing and calming to try:
meditation
- Meditation is known to be one of the most anxiety-reducing and calming hobbies for your mind, even if you only have a few spare minutes on a busy day.
mindfulness
- Mindfullness can be a good hobby when you have a very busy schedule or don't have much spare time. By focusing on the present moment, you can begin to relax your mind.
getting creative
- Doing something creative like journalling or playing a musical instrument can be really helpful in giving you a creative outlet! Expressing your anxiety through creativity can be a really relaxing way to de-stress.
stay active
- Hobbies that encourage you to go outside and stay active can be really helpful and fun! Whether it's taking your dog for a walk, or playing a sport you enjoy, keeping active can be great for reducing stress.
go dancing
- putting on some music and dancing around can feel really freeing and release a lot of nervous energy! It also has the benefit of keeping you active as well.
listen to a podcast or read
- These can be really good distractors and help quiet anxious thoughts when you're busy. Putting some headphones in and listening to a podcast can also be helpful when things are getting overwhelming, to block out the noise of everything around you!
