Exploring Character Strengths

Character strengths are defined as the positive parts of our personality that influence our thinking, experiences, and behavior. They are valued universally and in all cultures, benefit both ourselves and others, but are not necessarily the opposite of a "negative trait". In addition, character strengths can be cultivated and enhanced with effort - we all possess 24 character strengths in different degrees and hence, we all have a unique amalgam of strengths to explore. These strengths impact the well-being PERMA elements, and have been studied to be a key for several areas such as performance and coping abilities.

Our signature strengths are those strengths that are an essential part of who we are - while these may be one of our dominant/top/prominent character strengths, they do not necessarily have to be on the top of our list.

In order to explore your character strengths visit the free VIA Character Strengths Survey site here and create an account. The test takes around 15 minutes and you will get a report with a list of your 24 strengths in order of dominance.

After taking the test, use the space below to list your top 3 character strengths. Would you say these are your signature strengths?

Was unable to click into the evaluation of character strengths from the word, "here". I could not take the personal strength evaluation. I mentioned this in the final comment area, and had no choice but to move forward.

My love of learning is a driving force, an insatiable curiosity that fuels my exploration of the world, particularly the fascinating realm of psychology. This strength isn't just about accumulating knowledge; it's about the joy of discovery, the thrill of connecting seemingly disparate ideas, and the deep satisfaction of understanding the complexities of human behavior. Psychology, in particular, captivates me because it offers a framework for understanding ourselves and others, providing insights into motivation, emotion, and the intricate workings of the mind. 1 I am drawn to research papers, psychological theories, and case studies, eager to unravel the mysteries of human experience. This love of learning extends beyond personal enrichment; I feel a strong pull to share what I learn, to make psychological concepts accessible and engaging for others.   One way I express this is through creating fun, inspiring affirmations. I believe that positive self-talk can be incredibly powerful, and I enjoy crafting affirmations that are both insightful and memorable. I try to translate complex psychological principles into simple, easy-to-remember statements that people can use to boost their self-esteem, cultivate resilience, or develop a more positive mindset. For example, instead of a generic "I am worthy," I might create an affirmation like, "I embrace my imperfections, knowing they are part of my unique journey of growth," which incorporates elements of self-acceptance and a growth mindset. I find it incredibly rewarding to see how these affirmations can resonate with others, sparking self-reflection and empowering them to embrace their full potential. My love of learning, combined with my desire to share that knowledge, allows me to contribute to the well-being of others, one affirmation at a time. It's a way for me to use my strengths to make a positive impact, and it's a process I find deeply fulfilling.
