Ensuring Social Support

Social support helps you manage challenging times. As a caregiver, you should not feel burdened to make every decision or be responsible for all of your loved one's needs. A challenge shared is a challenge halved, and you deserve to feel supported.

  • Communicate with other family and friends who will be supporting your loved one facing MDS
  • Share the decision making process by discussing important information and other concerns. Make sure to communicate with your loved one facing MDS where appropriate.
  • Work with your loved one's medical team and family/friends to have an emergency plan in place. This will help you unite in the face of any challenges that may come up while being mentally prepared.
  • Connect with other caregivers or emotional support via resources like 7 Cups to help explore your own feelings as you navigate your loved one's journey.

In the box below, reflect on your support circle and how you can ensure social support for yourself.
