Self Care & Depression
There are many, many ways we can practice self care! But first let’s understand what the meaning of self care is. Self care is the practice of doing something that calms you, can de-stress you, it’s something that allows you to put the full focus on yourself!
Here are some self care examples:
-Going for a walk
-Doing yoga or meditation, reading a good book/article, watching a good video
-Journaling, volunteering
-A nice bath, a good meal
-Talking to a friend
Think of the ways that you practice self-care while dealing with depression.
Reaching Out
Depression can affect the way we think about ourselves, the world and others. Reaching out is not a sign of weakness and it won’t mean you’re a burden to others. It can be challenging to reach out, but we sometimes can’t manage our depression alone.
Activity: Take a moment to think about someone you can reach out to. Think about what you might tell this person and how you would like them to support you. You can even grab a pen and paper and write down what you want to tell them prior to doing so if it is easier.
Deep breath in. Deep breath out.
When you are ready, reach out to this person. Know you are not alone.
It's okay to not be okay
